Make a Difference THIS WEEK!

by Scott Noelle

“Black Friday” is fast becoming a global consumerism ritual, and while I do take part somewhat, for me it has also become a day to reflect on the non-material things I value and to debunk the consumerist myth that more stuff necessarily leads to more happiness.

Today I connected with my desire to invest my life energy (and dollars) in things that make the world a better place, especially for children. So the remainder of this message is an invitation for you to join forces with me in supporting a project that I believe will lead to many thousands of children being empowered through Self-Directed Education.

Let’s Make a Movie!

Filmmaker Jeremy Stuart devoted four years of his life to making the documentary Class Dismissed, which has inspired thousands of parents to reject schooling that wasn’t working for their children and opt to homeschool instead. Now he’s begun making a follow-up documentary that could further embolden parents to trust children’s capacity to direct their own education.

Entitled Self-Taught, this film will tell the real-life stories of adults who, as children and teens, were given the freedom and responsibility to learn on their own terms, so we can see how they “turn out.” And Jeremy is the kind of truth-teller who will showcase a variety of outcomes, not just the extraordinary successes, so it will help to make self-directed education seem less extraordinary, more normal, more doable for everyone.

I want to help Jeremy complete this project much faster than his first film, so I’m supporting his Kickstarter fundraising campaign, and if you’ll do the same, I’m prepared to triple the value of your contribution. First, I will match every contribution made by a Daily Groove subscriber, up to a total of $1,500. Second, I will give those contributors an equivalent credit for my parent support services, up to $100 each.* That’s in addition to the thank-you perks Jeremy is offering via Kickstarter. (Details below.)

For example, if you contribute $50 via Kickstarter, and then notify me, I’ll increase my contribution by $50, and I’ll give you $50 off of a private coaching session or any future services I may offer through DailyGroove.com. Plus, Jeremy will give you a copy of the movie when it’s done and optionally put your name in the film’s credits!

Jeremy has only 6 days left to reach his fundraising goal of $18,000 or lose nearly $15,000 in pledges. But the good news is that it would only take a few generous Daily Groovers to catapult him past the finish line. Let’s make it happen!
